GSLS Presenter: Caitlin Monroe

Caitlin Monroe Headshot

Caitlin Monroe is a doctoral candidate in the History Department and a Buffett Global Impacts Fellow for the 2021-2022 academic year. Her teaching and research interests include East African history, gender and sexuality, intellectual history, and global history.

As a former high school teacher, Caitlin is also dedicated to exploring questions about the nature of the historical discipline with students in the classroom. She has taught her reimagined global history course, focused on the one-year framework of 1948, with these goals in mind, and is passionate about innovative approaches to helping students think critically about our study of the past. She was awarded the History Department’s teaching prize in 2018 and is an active member of the department’s Teaching Committee, helping lead conversations about inclusive and student-centered undergraduate learning.

Caitlin has previously worked with the Searle Center for Teaching and Learning as a Graduate Teaching Fellow and to conduct teaching observations. She is also a member of the History department’s Women’s Group and the Kaplan Institute’s Public Humanities Graduate Research workshop. Originally from Eugene, Oregon, Caitlin holds a BA in history and an MA in African Studies from Stanford University.
